Slow Down: 9 Signs You Need Self-Care ASAP

Signs You Need Self-Care

Let’s get serious for a minute: self-care is something that’s completely VITAL to all of us.

It’s not just a fun little face mask here and there or something to do when you’ve got time. We all need to be practicing self-care, every single day. It’s essential to keeping yourself healthy and well.

But, we know not everyone has the luxury of time to pause their busy life and daily routines to practice the self-care we truly need.

Why? Because not practicing enough self-care can have you falling into a pattern of neglect with yourself that is SO not the vibe. This, in turn, can have a negative impact on your physical and mental well-being.

So, what do you do? You build self-care into your routine where you can, and you monitor yourself for signs that you may need a little more than what you’re giving. But… that can be hard, especially if you’re out of practice.

That’s why today, we’re sharing a round-up of signs that you need more self-care because you deserve to be well cared for, boo!

9 Signs You Need Self-Care

♡ You’re exhausted.

And we’re not talking about the good kind of exhaustion that comes from a good workout. We’re talking bone-deep exhaustion that seems to stick around no matter how much sleep you’re getting. Experiencing exhaustion despite adequate sleep is a clear indicator that you need to replenish your energy through means other than sleep. And if you’re exhausted because you’re just not able to get enough sleep consistently? Then, scheduling in that 8 hours is a good place to start.

Are you finding yourself awake for hours even when you do schedule your sleep? It might be time to adjust some of your other habits. Try reading a real book and doing a no screens rule one hour before you go to bed. It’s a small, simple, but very effective step in getting a better, deeper sleep.

♡ You’re in pain.

We weren’t meant to be in pain all the time. Our bodies were made to feel good, and when our physical health is well taken care of, they do feel good. So if everything hurts, it might be time to reconnect with your body and get some movement in. Try Kundalini yoga, pilates, or even some simple arm exercises to get your blood flowing. If you’ve been out of the fitness game for a while, try taking a 20 minute walk every day to get you going in the right directions. Just focus on moving your body every single day and don’t get overwhelmed by complicated workouts.

♡ Your thoughts are consistently negative.

Whether the negativity is self-directed or aimed at everything around you, it’s time for a change. If stress is weighing you down, treat yourself to something uplifting and rediscover the joy of life. Do things that make you happy or start a gratitude journal and write in it every night. We know life isn’t all rainbows and unicorns, which is why we love what Sahil Bloom suggested on the HIM & HER Show:

Grab your paper and write down 1 win from the day, 1 point of tension or anxiety from the day, and 1 point of gratitude. It’s quick, effective, and allows you to reflect in a thoughtful way.

♡ You’re having a hard time upholding your boundaries.

Upholding your boundaries is one of the aspects of life that can be difficult even when you ARE feeling good, but it gets exponentially harder when you don’t make room for yourself. Just think: if you’re not taking care of yourself and putting yourself first, then who will?

It’s a slippery slope from skipping self-care to letting people walk all over you. And we are NOT about that. So schedule some time for yourself in your Hot Minute Planner and feel good about saying NO if that’s what serves you.

Signs You Need Self-Care

♡ You’ve isolated yourself.

It’s okay to put the phone down every once in a while, in fact, it’s good for you. But when putting your phone away turns into days, weeks maybe months without nourishing you meaningful relationships, maybe something is up. Humans crave community by nature so call a friend to plan a walk or take a class at your community center.

♡ You don’t care about your goals anymore.

Maybe your vision board has been covered up or you’ve forgotten to practice your whisper manifestation. Whatever it is that keeps you on track to hitting your goals is really important important so don’t let it fall by the wayside.

When we lose interest in our goals, we lose interest in our life path. And that path you’re on matters, so we need you to keep running it.

♡ Your emotions are running wild.

If you find yourself easily angered, it’s time for some self-care. Emotional balance keeps us stable, but when things go awry, our feelings can quickly escalate. This can lead to you feeling dysregulated and unhappy.

Time for yourself, proper sleep, proper diet and exercise is what you need to solve this problem. Take some time, do some ice rolling, take your supplements, meditate or walk. Do what you have to do to regulate your moods.

♡ Your appetite changed.

We ALL love a good bite of The Skinny Confidential X DEUX Buttercream Sugar Cookie, but if you’re wanting sweets for EVERY meal? It might be a good idea to examine your routine and identify elements that have left you feeling unbalanced. We search for sweets when we feel like we need a little treat, but needing a little treat multiple times a day is a sign that you’re not treating yourself to the self-care you need.

♡ Every decision you make feels hard.

Sure, sometimes you’ve got to think about if certain decisions align with your goals? But if deciding what’s for dinner feels like an uphill battle, you may be weighed down with decision fatigue…aka the Paradox of Choice. Decision fatigue can lead to poor choices, which begins an endless cycle of bad choices making you feel worse, then leading to worse choices that make you feel EVEN WORSE! You’ve got to get out and STAY OUT of this harmful cycle by choosing to rest & recharge when you need it.

If this sounds like you, combat decision fatigue by sitting down and setting a weekly plan – shopping list, meal plan, exercise. Do it all in one go and you won’t have to make any decisions all week.
