One thing we don’t do enough of as adults: celebrate our birthdays. 

Think about it. Our birthdays are a huge accomplishment every year. They’re a great time to reflect on the previous year and set intentions for the year to come. 

And between surviving the year and the work we’re doing to set out for a great new year, we deserve a celebration. That’s why we’re declaring that adult birthday parties should make a big comeback.

Plus, birthday parties are one of the rare opportunities we get to have all of our loved ones in one place. And it’s a day that’s all about YOU. What could be better? 

But we’ll admit, planning a birthday party can be stressful. There’s a lot to consider. Just ask Lauryn about Zaza’s Pineapple Soiree and Eloise Birthday. It takes major work, even when you have help.

Don’t sweat it though, we have you covered with both practical and creative tips for throwing the BEST adult birthday party you’ve ever had. Plus, we’ve got some adult birthday party ideas for themes that are sure to kick off a good time.

How To Throw A Great Birthday Party For Adults

Tip #1: Choose a date.

The first step in any party planning venture is to pick a date. For a birthday party, you’ll want to decide whether or not to have it on your actual birthday. Of course, you’ll also want to consider your guests’ other engagements like, having a birthday party on a Tuesday may not be the move, even if it’s your actual birthday. So choose that date and mark it down on all your calendars/planners.

HOT TIP: choose a date between 2 weeks and 1 month ahead of time to give your party goers plenty of time to plan.

Tip #2: Set a budget.

To know what you want to do, you’ve gotta know what you want to spend to celebrate your birthday. Are you going all out for your bad-ass birthday bash, or keeping it more casual? Your budget may make a difference here.

Tip #3: Decide on a theme.

Is the theme the most important part of your birthday party planning? Maybe not, but it’s definitely up there. Your theme determines the look and the vibe of your party and if you’re a diva like we are, it’s probably also going to determine your outfit. 

Pick a theme that matches how you want to feel and how you want your guests to feel at the party. For theme party ideas, keep scrolling–we’ve got some down below.

Tip #4: Pick your venue.

There are some things you’ll want to consider before you pick your venue: your budget (of course), your theme, how many guests you’ll be inviting, and how long you want your party to be. 

Obviously, you want your venue to match your theme, but you also want it to be comfortable and fun for your guests for as long as you’ll be there. Some solid venues include bars, Airbnbs, VRBOs, hotel party rooms, or your own house.

Tip #5: Create your guest list.

Now it’s time to consider the who’s who of your friends and family: your guest list. First and foremost, you want to ensure that your guest list reflects the atmosphere you want for your party. If you’re keeping it small, you may only want to invite your closest friends. However, if you’re throwing a big bash, grandma might not be on the invite list. Moreover, these little details can make a significant difference in the execution of your party.

Tip #6: Set your itinerary.

Now that you’ve got your guest list, you’ve got to have an itinerary that matches the vibe of your party and your guests. Even if your party is more of an open-house-style get-together, you’re going to want to have a plan for things like when the food and drink will be served, when any planned activities might happen (like singing Happy Birthday), and when the party will end. But either way, that’s something you’re going to want to have a plan for. 

Tip #7: Send out your invitations.

The timing of this tip is CRUCIAL. You want to send out invitations with enough time that people can plan for your party, without feeling like it’s a last-minute assignment. If you want to get super fun with it, we highly recommend using Bliss & Bone. Tip #8: Determine party favors.

Tip #9: Decorate at many heights.

We learned this tip from Lauryn’s friend Faith, who threw a killer 30th birthday bash at a VRBO in Beverly Hills. Where a lot of people may simply have a “Happy Birthday” banner or have a table where the presents go, you want to create an amazing visual effect at every level from the ceiling to the floor. 

How do you do this? We recommend lots and lots of balloons. They are super affordable and bring all the birthday vibes to the environment, whether you’ve got helium balloons placed strategically, a balloon arch for photos, or balloons scattered throughout the party on the floor, all 3 are good options.

HOT TIP: Splurge for the balloon weights and cut the strings at different lengths so it will look like a sea of balloons.

Tip #10: Photos, photos, photos.

Did you really have a bangin’ birthday bash if you didn’t get any photos of it? Some would say no. However, of course, you can have an amazing party without the perfect pics to post afterward. But chances are, you’re going to want to remember this party. Therefore, make it easy on your guests by getting a polaroid or two with lots of film. Additionally, set up a table with a guest book and fun markers so your guest can write in it. This way, guests can take a picture, tape it into the book, and write out a memory. And the perfect keepsake for you.

Or, you can also go the professional route and hire a photographer to staff a photo booth. It’s up to you, babes! Either way, the results will be picture-perfect.

A dinner party is always a classy, yet simple option. Make food ahead of time, or cater food in. Then, sit down with your besties and enjoy.

Everyone loves a party with an activity. It gives your more shy guests something to focus on until they can come out of their shell. Additionally, it’s just fun. You can pick your favorite games and get them prepped to play. From classic board games to interactive group activities, there’s something for everyone. Moreover, if you’re having a big party, use the games as centerpieces on different tables. It’s an easy icebreaker and a damn good time. The possibilities are endless, and it’s a fantastic way to ensure everyone has a blast at your party.

Naomie Olindo's Weight Loss Story

This post is everything all TSC readers want more & more of. The details, the specifics, the nitty gritty, on how Naomie from Southern Charm tightened up with intermittent fasting, blender bombs, & mindset. Everyone is after her diet plan, strength training regime and wants to know how they can lose weight too. If you haven’t met Helen from last week’s post, let me reintroduce her.

We ran into Helen at a tiny hotel called Zero George Street Hotel. We sipped on skinny margs & talked about Naomie Olindo from Southern Charm & how she completely transformed her body through Blender Bombs & an intermittent fasting eating schedule. Helen told me that she also changed her life through intermittent fasting after she gained the ‘freshman 20.’ So I figured I HAD TO ask her to come on TSC to talk SPECIFICALLY about how her & Naomie tightened up. Fun fact: Helen and Naomie came on for fab episode on the HIM & HER Show.

Naomie has always been a thin, tight, toned girl, but recently she’s really taken her fitness to the next level. Helen is her really good friend & helped guide her through this journey. So I wanted to pick Helen’s brain on the transformation.

Naomie Olindo’s Weight Loss Story

In this post you’re going to learn about cardio & how sometimes less is more, the beauty of balanced eating ( hello 80×20 rule ) & intermittent fasting ( Naomie does the 16/8 version ).

Without further ado, let’s welcome Helen who is sharing Naomie’s journey with us.

Naomie Olindo is the shit, but if you watch her on Bravo every Wednesday night, you probably already knew that.

I’ve been lucky enough to take a front row seat to her physical and mental transformation. And I can confidently say Naomie is one of those ridiculously amazing humans who’s just as beautiful on the inside as she is on the outside. Her healthy lifestyle journey is a testament to health being so much more than just a number on the scale, but rather an overall mindset and feeling. It’s crazy how extricating yourself from toxic situations can do wonders for your health, #amiright? 

HOT DAMN

Most recently, people have been taking major notice of Naomie’s incredible weight loss. Between 2017 and 2018, the Bravo star lost over 25 pounds, and she did so by doing it the right way — slowly. We all know that long term weight loss doesn’t happen overnight, even though we hate accepting that fact. I mean, if you haven’t fallen for a 30-day detox, you’re a four leaf clover. Can I have your discipline, please? Every person is going to have a different story when it comes to weight loss, but Naomie crushed her goals by developing five very simple, yet very effective habits. 

THE LONG STORY, SHORT

Just like your average girl, Chick-Fil-A and sugary cereal were staples in Naomie’s diet before, during, and after college. But, in February 2017, she decided enough was enough. And it was time to get her shit together by putting her health first. The ONLY way she was able to implement and maintain this new routine was to take teeny tiny steps, one at a time. It’s not like body fat melted off overnight.

First, she mastered her workout routine. Next, she looked to my instagram to guide her toward healthier eating habits. Once she felt good about her fitness and diet, her mindset inevitably started to shift. And she began pursuing personal development, self care, and mindfulness techniques to round it all out.

♡ #1: WORKOUTS 

They say the hardest part of working out is actually getting to the gym, and they’re not wrong. You just have to start, no matter what “starting” looks like. In Naomie’s case, she eased into her fitness journey with 30-minute workouts twice a week. Half of the workout was cardio on both the treadmill and the rower, and the other half was weight-lifting. She became stronger week by week until she was ready to up her weekly dose of cardio from twice a week to four times a week. 

But, as luck would have it, a few weeks into her new found cardio-heavy routine, Naomie broke her foot ( longboarding accident LOL ) making cardio off-limits for the next few months. 

AND YOU’LL NEVER GUESS WHAT HAPPENED.

This cardio sabbatical is what changed Naomie’s body the most, in a beautiful way. The stubborn weight started falling off when she focused on eating well and doing cardio less. I’ve been saying this for as long as I can remember to whoever will listen, but when it comes to cardio, sometimes less is more. I repeat: LESS is MORE. Back in 2015, I was what some would refer to as a “gym rat.” I was convinced that the more minutes spent at the gym doing cardio, the more weight I would lose. Spoiler alert: I was very wrong. As soon as I began focusing less on my time at the gym and more on my happiness, getting better sleep, and eating a more plant-based diet, the stubborn fat literally began to melt off, and this is exactly what happened to Naomie.

Now, you can find Naomie in the gym 3ish mornings a week, focusing on half cardio and half weights. Through trial and error ( damn longboards ), Naomie was able to find exactly what works for her body and, more importantly, what kind of exercise she enjoys, which is truly 90% of the battle. It’s so important to play around with different styles and lengths of workouts, different weekly routines, instructors, locations, and equipment to figure out what feels best for your body and gets you pumped to workout. In other words, LFG.

♡ #2: FOOD

We’ve all heard it: “Abs are made in the kitchen.” It’s a hard-to-grasp, but insane truth that you can’t out-exercise a bad diet.

Buttttt… social media can make that hard to believe. During the summer, Instagram is overcrowded with pictures of people in bikinis, eating pizza, drinking sugary drinks, and seemingly living their best lives. Is it staged? Is it Photoshop? Is it a top-secret, incredible exercise routine? Maybe. Or maybe it’s just good freakin’ genes. Some people are blessed and have won the gene lottery. But most people ( myself, Naomie, and 95% of the world included ) have to be diligent with our healthy habits to maintain a certain physique. 

I am ALL about living a balanced lifestyle, but let’s be really real here for a second: a diet consisting of fake, dead, processed, refined junk food isn’t going to beautify our insides, so what makes us think it’ll beautify our outside?

Blender Bombs

Naomie’s diet throughout high school and college was pretty standard: sugary cereals for breakfast, pizza and Doritos for afternoon snacks, and A LOT of late night junk food at house parties. Her first attempt at eating “healthily” didn’t move the needle very much because she was still eating refined sugary foods as snacks and processed foods for dinner. But then, something magical happened. Naomie started swapping out her Taco Bell lunch for a homemade Blender Bomb Smoothie instead. Specifically, 2 Blender Bombs + ½ cup spinach + ¼ cup mango + ¼ cup strawberries + water and ice. Check out this PDF for smoothie recipes.

At first, Naomie hoped that having one BB smoothie a day would cancel out the three beers, processed dinner, and wine or dessert she consumed later. You can’t blame her—breaking habits is super hard!

ENTER Intermittent Fasting.

I introduced Naomie to the 16/8 version of intermittent fasting ( 16 hours “not eating,” 8 hours “eating” ), and she gave it a try. She would only eat between the hours of 12pm and 8pm. At 12 she would break her fast with a BB Smoothie, then she would have a snack a few hours later if she was hungry, and for dinner she would also enjoy a planted-based or pescatarian dinner ( plus a glass of wine, duh ). Naomie started out following this intermittent fasting routine 5-7 days a week. But don’t fret! When she reached her goal weight a few months later, she was able to drop her intermittent fasting routine to 3-4 days a week. Intermittent fasting is insanely beneficial not only for your health, but also for your wallet! When you eat at scheduled times, you’re never overeating, snacking just to snack, or spending empty money on food that may go to waste. For some ( like Naomie ), IMF means eating between 12pm and 8pm. For others, it could be between 9am and 5pm. So regardless of the schedule you choose, the main key is to break your fast with a BB smoothie so your body absorbs the crap out of all those delicious nutrients on an empty stomach.

OH! And don’t worry — having a cup of coffee in the morning is permissible and doesn’t count against your fast. So, even though you’re not eating, at least you’ve had your coffee so you can be a somewhat functioning human being.  

♡ #3: MINDSET

It’s hard to see and feel success via these lifestyle changes until your head is in the right place. Your mindset is a big ( if not the biggest ) part of your health transformation. To see changes on the outside you’ve got to do the work to make changes on the inside first. Intentional acts of self care, personal development, self love, and mindfulness ( being more present ) help calm your nervous system and also allow you to relax. In a larger sense, getting yourself out of toxic situations, toxic relationships, and anything that isn’t serving you in a positive way will cater to your subconscious mind and lead you toward a happier life.

Specifically for Naomie, she found that inner peace by reading personal development books, removing herself from toxic situations and relationships, meditating here and there, and started going to counseling. The subconscious mind is a POWERFUL thing. Whether you realize it or not, who you spend your time with and what you spend your time doing will impact your energy levels in countless ways. So, as important as it is to get a hold of your eating and exercise habits, it’s arguably more important to work on personal development, self care, and mindfulness first.

THE END, ALL WRAPPED UP

Naomie made both a physical and mental transformation by taking these small steps that turned into one, giant leap. 

  1. Replacing one meal a day with a Blender Bomb Smoothie.
  2. Eating a plant-based/pescatarian diet. 
  3. Exercising 3ish times a week ( mostly weights, a little cardio ).
  4. Intermittent fasting 5ish days a week.
  5. Practicing self care, mindfulness, personal development. 
    • Reading
    • Removing yourself from toxic situations/relationships
    • Occasional meditation

All of this is just an outline. It’s encouraged to put your own magical spin on these steps to see what works best for you! Tweaking them to best fit your lifestyle is imperative as no one has the same body type, metabolism, mindset, likes, dislikes, financial situations, work schedules, etc. Just make sure to ALWAYS consult your doctor about intermittent fasting or switching to a new diet pattern before diving in head first.

TEENY TINY STEPS 

If all of this seems too overwhelming, start by taking it one month at a time ( slow and steady always wins the race, right? )

For example:

MONTH ONE: Replace one meal a day with a Blender Bomb Smoothie. Check out this PDF for smoothie recipes.

MONTH TWO: Begin transitioning to a more plant-based/pescatarian diet. Check out this PDF for meal recipes.

MONTH THREE: Exercise 3ish times a week ( mostly weights, a little cardio ).

MONTH FOUR: Try 16/8 Intermittent Fasting 5ish days a week.

For self care, mindfulness, and personal development practices:

MONTH FIVE: Purchase some personal development books to read.

MONTH SIX: Remove yourself from toxic situations/relationships.

MONTH SEVEN: Incorporate occasional meditation into your daily routine.

Eventually, all of these small changes will add up, and you’ll be thanking yourself for doing the work. It took Naomie about three months to notice a change, and after the initial 3 month “hump,” weight loss, mindful eating, and self care became easier and easier.

NAOMIE NOW

Naomie is currently very happy with where she is physically and mentally, which also has provided her more wiggle room in her routine. Some weeks she might eat 60×40, some 70×30, but most weeks she sticks to 80×20. Some weeks she works out four times. Other weeks she only works out twice. Some weeks she intermittent fasts three mornings, and other weeks she intermittent fasts for five mornings.

The bottom line: Do what works best for you, and perfect isn’t best. Naomie still indulges in the occasional Taco Bell run or meat and cheese board, and you can, too. That’s the beauty of 80×20. You just have to start.

The Skinny Confidential Thanksgiving Hacks

If you’re like me, next week you’re gonna be running around like a chicken ( or a turkey ) with your head cut off. You’re on a time crunch, but you wanna show up to Thanksgiving dinner with something super vibey. You know? Something that makes you feel like you’ve been slaving away in the kitchen to create something that everyone is going to love. This year, we’re going to Cabo and needless to say, I’m very excited.

But you know I got ya covered when things get crazy.

Today I’m sharing 5 hacks that will make all the difference. We’re going to discuss Kris Jenner’s famous lemon cake ( it’s out of a box ), homemade potpourri ( to make your house smell fucking delicious ), mulled wine ( yum ), fake cake ( yes you read that right- FAKE CAKE- it’ll look like you spent 5 hours baking but actually it only takes 5 minutes ), & cinnamon cider Brussels sprouts ( this recipe is a game-changer & makes the best side…let me tell ya ).

We’re on a bit of a time crunch ( lol ), so let’s get right to it.

THE SKINNY CONFIDENTIAL THANKSGIVING HACKS

♡ Kris Jenner’s lemon cake

We want to show up with a cake or something festive. But in reality who has time to bake 3 cakes? I sure don’t.

Well I just solved this problem for you. Eer, well actually Kris Jenner did.

Let me explain. A few years ago I was watching Keeping Up With the Kardashians. You know the one where Kris & Khloe have a bake-off? Missed that one? Oh, well it was a good one.

Anyway, they have this whole bake-off & Kris makes her famous cake. A cake she’s been making for 20 years. Actually she even is said to have made it for Lamar Odom weekly when he was married to Khloe, #TBT. AND IT’S A LEMON CAKE!

Of course you know how I love lemon so my ears perked up from my laptop. Khloe gives her so much shit because this famous cake she bakes is out of a box. Well two boxes, actually- but we’ll get to that.

Listen, I am a busy bitch so something like this is right up my alley. I like Kris’ style. She does it all & bakes an insane, delicious, famous lemon cake? I want IN.

Like I love the whole juggle of the situation.

So I investigated.

AT FIRST all I could find was Kris saying “fresh eggs & fresh oil, duh.” I LIVE. But I dug deep into the deep, dark web & found one measly article on Kris Jenner’s famous lemon cake.

On I went to make the cakes. There I was, Suzy Fucking Homemaker ready to show up to Christmas ( obviously they’re perfect for Thanksgiving too ) with my hands full of cakes for everyone. Not boring cakes either…TASTY, buttery soft lemon cakes! You know my relationship with lemon!! In fact, this is the perfect yearly tradition for me!

Who gives a shit if it’s out of the box?

Ok, Khloe does. But I sure don’t! I’m more of a Kris than a Khloe anyway. You?

Moving right along.

This is a total GET SHIT DONE CAKE. The “recipe” is so easy & no one will know.

Anyway, you don’t have all day so let’s get to the easiest recipe in the world?

Alright: first things first- it’s basically Duncan Hines Lemon Supreme Cake Mix, JELLO lemon instant pudding mix ( this is the SECRET ingredient I feel ), vegetable oil, eggs, & milk. There’s a glaze too, made with powdered sugar, & lemon juice. YESSSS.

Let’s get exact though, according to the Duncan Hines site:

KRIS JENNER’S FAMOUS LEMON CAKE

+ Makes 12-16 servings

♡ 1 package DUNCAN HINES SIGNATURE DELICIOUSLY MOIST LEMON SUPREME CAKE MIX

♡ 1 package lemon instant pudding Mix ( 4 serving size )

♡ 1/2 cup vegetable oil

♡ 1 cup water

♡ 4 cage-free eggs

+++ GLAZE: blend 1 cup powdered sugar w/ either 2 tbsp. milk or 2 tbsp. lemon juice ( use juice of 3 lemons- we like it tart )

+ directions: Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Blend all ingredients in a large bowl; then beat at medium speed for 2 minutes. Bake in a greased & floured tube pan, 10″ or fluted at 350 degree for 45-55 minutes, until center springs back when touched lightly. Cool right side up in pan for about 25 minutes, then invert onto serving plate. GLAZE: Poke holes in the cake and then drizzle.

* note: I multiplied the recipe x 4 because I made 4 cakes- my fam, Michael’s, a friend, & Michael’s aunt!

♡ Homemade potpourri

There’s something to be said about the phrase “home for the holidays.” This homemade potpourri, created by my step-mom, Julie, is constantly brewing at my parents’ house during the holiday season. Its spicy essence creates a warm feeling of sensory memory. It immediately transforms the ambience to a Thanksgiving & Christmas feeling. The best part? No calories– the smell of festive spirit is enough to alleviate the temptation of baked goods.

Ingredients:

+ 1.5 cups of spicy apple cider

+ 1 gala apple

+ 2 oranges

+ 8 cinnamon sticks

+ 6 whole nutmegs

+ 1 dash of ground cloves

+ 2 dashes of pumpkin spice

♡ Put everything in to a small pot. When there are people at home, turn the stove on the lowest simmer. But like, DO NOT forget to turn it off when no one is home!!!

HOT TIP: This glass pot is the chicest thing ever. It’s like decor for your stove. It’s lightweight, but sturdy and the best part, is you can see all the beautiful colors of the ingredients.

This concoction lasts for two weeks and it’s totally normal for the ingredients to shrivel up over the days. Just keep adding splashes of spicy apple cider every few days.

♡ Mulled wine

Ingredients:

♡ 1 bottle of red wine

♡ A handful of whole cloves

♡ A couple of cinnamon sticks

♡ Zest of an organic orange

+ Directions: simmer all ingredients over low-medium heat for ten minutes. Strain & pour into mugs. Then garnish with the zest of an orange. Mandatory: drink in front of a fire. K?

Mulled wine

♡ Fake cake

Here are the details: go to the market, grab a frosting-less cake ( Yes. They have these. If your local market doesn’t have these, go to another one because their cake game is OFF ), & then get some pretty flowers ( I usually choose orange & yellow ), & throwback cream cheese pre-made frosting.

At home, simply cut the flowers so the stems are about one inch long. Frost your pathetic/frosting-less cake & sprinkle pomegranate seeds down the middle of the cake, adding flowers where ever it looks cute.

Of course if you have actual time to bake the cake yourself, well then aren’t you the star of show, & by all means— be my guest. Whatever floats your boat on this one. As you can see this is a hack I’ve been into for years.

This festive cutie is kind of up to you— modify it to fit your needs. GET CREATIVE. Add fresh herbs, cranberries, yellow rose petals, cinnamon, &/or pumpkin icing.

♡ Cinnamon cider Brussels sprouts

A few years ago I was having a Thanksgiving meltdown, trying to think of the perfect TSC recipe for you guys. I didn’t want to skinny-fy something though, ya know? Anyways, when it was really down to the wire, I texted my friend Carly ( aka The Preggers Pantry ) who gave me this recipe. It’s become a Thanksgiving staple, & is so easy & healthy.

Cinnamon cider Brussels sprouts | The Skinny Confidential Thanksgiving Hacks

PLUS, it has the easiest directions ever ( makes four servings ): in a large pan over medium heat, heat oil. Cook Brusssels sprouts ( cut side down ), flipping once until browned for ten to twelve minutes. Add apple & pear; cook until soft for five minutes. Add cider & cinnamon; simmer, stirring, until all liquid cooks away.

Oh and, a serving offers about 3/4 of your daily need for Vitamin C.

So good it hurts.

Tired of having more than one chin? It’s one of the few things we all want LESS of. 

It’s time we talk about the turkey neck in the room – that extra bit of fat hanging out under your chin. 

We’re talking about that dreaded double chin. 

Not only can it make us feel like we’ve aged overnight, but it also knocks our self-confidence on its ass (and then some).

Genetics, posture, and even your sleeping habits play a part in the ol’ neck and chin sitch.

So, today we’re dedicating this post to talking about the different causes of the double chin. 

We’ll cover how it can affect your aging neck skin and its elasticity, and of course, the solutions to kick its double-ass to the curb.

So, grab a drink, make it a double, and let’s get to work.

9 Double Chin Causes and Solutions

Now, it’s time to get down to the nitty-gritty. Let’s talk about one of the most ANNOYING cosmetic issues out there – the double chin.

Whether it’s caused by genetics, diet, aging, facial structure, or poor posture, having a double chin sucks. 

So, let’s discuss 10 causes of double chins and how to tackle them head-on with practical remedies.

+ Genetics

Unfortunately, some of us are simply more prone to developing a double chin than others due to our genetic makeup. It’s just the way the cookie crumbles. 

+ Mouth Breathing

Consistently breathing through your mouth instead of your nose can cause your facial muscles to weaken. This can then lead to drooping skin under the chin. For more on this, listen to Dr. Huberman’s HIM & HER Show episode.

+ Poor Posture

Believe it or not, something as simple as poor posture can contribute to extra fat and skin under the chin

Make a conscious effort to sit and stand straight so your head and neck can align with your spine.

+ Facial Structure

For some folks, their natural facial structure includes a less-defined jawline, leaving them more prone to developing a double chin. 

+ Chewing Gum

If you’re chewing gum constantly, that might lead to an overuse of the muscles in the chin and neck area. In turn, this can create a more prominent double chin. 

So, try cutting back or ditching it all together.

+ Aging and Older Skin

The older you get, the older your skin gets. And as we age, we naturally lose our skin elasticity, which can contribute to sagging skin and the appearance of having two (or more) chins. 

+ Misc. Health Issues

There ARE certain health issues, such as thyroid disorders or hormonal imbalances, that can contribute to forming a double chin. 

For this cause (or any of the other causes listed above), you should consult with your doctor if you suspect any underlying health issues.

+ Extra Fat

Excess fat is one of the most common culprits behind a double chin.

A diet high in fat and calories can contribute to excess fat storage around the body, especially under the chin.

Lose Weight

This one seems a bit harsh, and also a bit of a no-brainer. But as we’ve mentioned earlier, body weight is one of the main causes of a double chin. Also, now more than ever, we’re more likely to develop double chins from tech neck, considering everyone is WFH these days.

So, losing weight through a healthy diet and regular exercise can help you get rid of fat all over your body, including your chin. Just a little weight loss can make a noticeable difference, if these things are bothering you.

Not sure where to start? We get it! It can be totally overwhelming. Here are our top tips on how to stay consistent with diet & exercise.

Light Therapy

We have an entire podcast episode dedicated to light therapy where we feature one of our fave tech brands, Joovv. Lauryn and Michael talk with Scott Nelson, their co-founder, and Wes Pfiffner, their head of business development. 

Basically, light therapy uses light to stimulate collagen production, which can reduce the appearance of a double chin. It’s non-invasive and generally safe, but results may take longer to appear than with other treatments. 

Double Chin Surgery

Double chin surgery (or plastic surgery in general) can be a great way to ditch that double chin. With incisions under the chin, this surgery removes excess fat and tightens the skin for a more defined jawline. 

This is probably the MOST invasive treatment, has the highest risk factor, and the recovery time might be longer than other treatments. But, for some, the potential results are very worth it. 

So, just do your research, consult with a pro (like Dr. Kay or Dr. Gross), and make sure it’s the best fit for you.

The MAIN thing to remember throughout all of this, is that you should not stress about that dubious double chin.

Just remember, confidence comes from within, but a little extra help in the beauty/cosmetic department never hurt anyone.

SC: The ViPeel provides dramatic results with virtually no pain and little downtime. The ViPeel will improve the tone, texture and clarity of the skin; reduce or eliminate age spots, freckles, and hyper-pigmentation, including melasma; soften lines and wrinkles; clear acne skin conditions; reduce or eliminate acne scars; and stimulate the production of collagen, for firmer, more youthful skin.

|| Worst thing for your skin? ||

SC: Smoking cigarettes & too much sun exposure ( << more info here ).

|| Recommendations for women in their twenties & thirties? I love any preventative tips. ||

If you haven’t already started taking care of your skin, there’s no better time than now. Prevention is the key for your twenties. If you smoke, stop now. Sun protection is imperative as well. Most skin damage is done before the age of twenty, but sun exposure thereafter only adds insult to injury. The skin begins to lose moisture as we progress through our thirties, and some moisturizing ingredients work better than others. Look for products rich in hyaluronic acid, which holds more than a hundred times its own weight in water.

|| Ok, so tell us why SPF so important? ||

SC: Repeated sun exposure accelerates the skin aging process and increases the risk of developing skin cancer, which affects over a million people in the United States every year. A 2013 study found that regular sunscreen use protects against photo-aging: the wrinkling, spotting and loss of elasticity caused by exposure to the sun’s ultraviolet radiation. Those who use sunscreen daily are 24% less likely to show increased signs of
aging.

|| Your skin is incredible! What’s your AM/PM routine? ||

SC: I cleanse with Epicuren Herbal Cleanser in AM & PM. Then I use my favorite product: SkinMedica TNS Essential Serum is a unique, multi-faceted product designed to treat and maintain a healthy, youthful complexion. It contains an array of natural human growth factors and other compounds that help diminish the visible signs of aging, such as wrinkles, fine lines and uneven texture in the AM & PM.

For lotions I use, Epicuren’s Brazilian Propolis Lotion & Acidophilus Probiotic Facial Cream in the AM. And at nighttime SkinMedica Dermal Repair.

I love SkinMedica TNA Eye Repair too. For sunscreen, MD Solar Sciences tinted SPF 30 facial sunscreen is amazing. For my treatments I will do a combination of peels, laser treatments & microdermabrasion when needed.

|| What can a client expect from you? ||

All facial treatments are customized to each individual, and begin with a complete skin analysis to design a skin care program for a glowing result. Combining facial treatments allows clients to take advantage of the benefits of each modality & to address the multiple effects of facial aging.

France Outfits: What I Wore & Fun Ideas For Summer

Michael and I just got home from Cannes, France and it was such a fun trip, but my god was I happy to be home & see my kids. 3 days is good, 7 is too long (for me). There was some work, some play, and it was a really fun trip filled with lots of Campari sodas and la piscine de champagne.

For this trip, I packed some high end staples that I really think I’ll have forever, or at least a very long time. I was wanting a more elevated, classic look, opposed to trendy this year. Some of the items are totally an investment, but like I said I’m trying to go for more quality over quantity when it comes to my closet lately.

We know Memorial Day is over a week away but we just want you to be all set up and the most prepared you can be.

Whether you’re off for a long weekend away, hitting up a BBQ with friends and family or staying poolside we wanted to give you all a roundup of our Memorial Day Necessities.

In this post we’re going to go over our favorite cocktails and mocktails, recipes that are perfect for a crowd, how to stay safe in the sun and beat the heat. Let’s get into it.

Memorial Day Essentials:

+ raspberry pear spritzer

+ Ollipop or Poppi (pour over ice with a suitable garnish and a fun straw for a vibe)
